Did you know 29,000 children under the age of 5 have died as a result of the famine in the Horn of Africa? The UN estimates a record 4 million people in Somalia need humanitarian aid and 750,000 people are in danger of "imminent starvation". We are families, individuals, children and adults coming together to support the people suffering in this region which includes Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia. Proceeds will go to World Vision’s Horn of Africa Food Crisis Fund www.worldvision.org.
Music will be performed by The Opposition Party www.oppositionpartymusic.com, a ten-piece Chicago musical collective centered around performance of polyrhythmic music, particularly the cross-pollination of African music, Jamaican reggae and dub, and American funk and jazz. Heavy grooves and high-energy rhythms come alive in a catalog that features music from artists like Ethiopiques, Fela Kuti, Tony Allen, Thomas Mapfumo, Jackie Mittoo, and originals that stir up all these influences and bake them into something new.
Please join us for a celebration of music and humanity. We can make a difference.
