World-class acts, top-notch beer, and philanthropic fun – get ready because “Fat Tire presents the Tour de Fat” from New Belgium Brewing is bringing the party to Chicago on Saturday, July 29. This year’s tour is the biggest and boldest yet, traveling to 33 cities.

Leading up to the big day, some cities, including Chicago, will host a Battle of the Bands competition to play on the Tour de Fat stage. On Monday, June 26 four local bands, White Mystery, Ric Wilson, Lili K and Modern Vices will compete against each other for this hometown honor.

“We’re looking forward to sharing our new Battle of the Bands competition element with Chicago music fans,” said New Belgium Tour de Fat Brand Manager, Sam Sawyer. “In Chicago, competing bands can earn votes online beginning Monday, June 12th, as well as from event attendees and Battle of the Bands judges. The band with the most combined votes gets to play at Tour de Fat!”

How Bands Win: Voting will be a three-part process including online in advance of the event, and on-site from attendees and a judging panel. The band with the most combined votes at the end of the Battle of the Bands event will play the Tour de Fat Chicago stop.

Online: Chicago music fans can vote online starting [DATE] through Monday, June 26 at 5pm at http://www.newbelgium.com/ChiBotb

On-site: Each attendee will receive one voting token and collection buckets will be available for all three bands. To vote, attendees will drop their token in the band’s bucket of their choosing.

Panel of Judges: Representatives from Audiotree, Timeout Chicago, Do312 and New Belgium Brewing will each vote for their favorite Battle of the Band performance.

All ticket proceeds for the Battle of the Bands at Schubas will benefit Alliance for the Great Lakes.

Tour de Fat at Northerly Island

Another new element for the 2017 season is a top headline act in each city. In Chicago at Northerly Island, The Roots will wow the crowd. The hip-hop band is touring this summer and fall, including the Chicago Tour de Fat stop.

In addition to live music, Tour de Fat Chicago will be hosted by rapper and comedian, Timothy DeLaGhetto, and the mayhem will include an ensemble cast of artists, performers, vaudeville acts, magicians and comedians. Tour de Fat revelers are encouraged to wear costumes and everyone 21 and older will be able to enjoy some of New Belgium’s year-round line-up including the American craft beer icon Fat Tire, Voodoo Ranger IPA and Citradelic Tangerine IPA.
