As far as local Chicago bands go, The Saps are pretty self-sufficient for one that plays at this level. You might expect bands playing rooms like Double Door, Fitzgerald's, Martyrs', Fireside Bowl, etc. to be on a label, have a manager, and have people doing things for them such as posters, album artwork and writing biographies. Not so for The Saps. Since the band came to be in '97 they've pretty much done everything themselves. A perfect example of The Saps' self-sufficiency is in the fact that what you are reading was written by the bass player- but he wrote it in the 3rd person so it seems like someone has been hired to write about the band. There's bullshit- then there's effective, creative bullshit.

Dan Lastick, lead singer, driver of the Winnebago, rhythm guitarist and songwriter, along with lead guitarist Dan Menoni, both Chicagoans of Oak Park descent, formed The Saps five years ago and have, with several incarnations of rhythm section, played their sometimes country-inspired, sometimes punk rock at hundreds of shows at the above-mentioned clubs as well as many others in and out of Chicago. The addition of Brett Whitacre on drums and bassist Tony Sackett has helped take the band to where it stands now as a major force on the Chicago scene.
