"Singer/guitarist Jason Narducy and cellist Alison Chesley started playing music together as an acoustic duo in 1993. A year later, they were touring the U.S. with the likes of Bob Mould, Morphine, Jonathon Richmond, and even alternative hit-makers Live. Jason & Alison, as they were called (!), presented a sonic bomb not expected by most audiences who anticipated a folk sound from the two wooden instruments before them. As Narducy aggressively bashed away at big open chords and thrust guttural vocals on top of the songs, Chesley twirled her cello as it screamed through a distortion pedals. They weren’t above playing a softer, delicate song, but they also weren’t limited to it.
By 1996, the duo had signed to Epic Records, added a bassist and drummer, and called the band Verbow. Verbow released two full-length records and three EPs before disbanding in 2002. Jason went on to play bass for Robert Pollard, Liz Phair, Bob Mould, and his current band, Telekinesis (Merge Records). Chesley has her own solo cello project called Helen Money and has played with Poi Dog Pondering, Sufjan Stevens, Broken Social Scene, and Justin Roberts.
In May, 2010, the band reunited for a sold-out show at Schubas that coincided with the release of their 1998 WXRT Sunday Night Concert live CD entitled, “Verbow Live At Schubas”. The release debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts and stayed there for 10 straight weeks. The last sentence may or may not be true.
This show will be the first time Jason Narducy and Alison Chesley will play an acoustic show together in ten years. They will perform songs from the Jason & Alison days and from the Verbow catalog."
